The Economy is Not the Biggest Concern We Face

Of all the major world leaders, or potential leaders it seems as though no one has a better grasp on post 9-11 foreign policy than the man who will most likely be the once and future Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu, the leader of the center-right Likud Party is currently the favorite to win Israel's February election for Prime Minister. At the World Economic Forum on Thursday Netanyahu said that, though it is important to lower taxes and increase economic competitiveness, it is not nearly as important as preventing a rouge regime from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Netanyahu goes on to say that even if there is a global economic collapse, that with the right decisions and global cooperation that the effects are "reversible." While a fanatical regime like the one in Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon is "not reversible." If Iran obtains a nuclear weapon it would be the first regime that actively sponsors terrorism to have a nuclear powered weapon. Even if Iran is hesitant to use a nuclear weapon against Israel or the United States, al Qaeda would not be so hesitant.

  1. I know the economy is in bad shape and something needs to be done, but I get irritated when I never hear Obama talk about fighting terrorism. Unless of course he is talking about protecting the rights of terrorists, or closing down Gitmo without plan in place as to where to transfer the terrorist inmates to.
